More details

Dandelion (Taraxacum)

Extract of freshly harvested Dandelion

Our Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) tincture is made from both dandelion root and dandelion leaves. The plant can be found growing in most temperate regions of the world and is part of theAsteraceae or sunflower family.

Benefits and features of A.Vogel Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale):

  • Made from freshly harvested Dandelion root and herb
  • Organically grown
  • Botanical food supplement

Dandelion has a long tap root and many who have tried to weed it out of gardens or flower beds will be familiar with how difficult it is to get the whole root out of the ground. When dried, dandelion root has been used to make coffee substitutes. Dandelion leaves can be eaten raw, in salads.

Dandelion root and leaves have also been used for centuries in healthcare. The Arabian physicians extolled the virtues of dandelion as early as the tenth and eleventh centuries and in the 13th century the Welsh recognised its beneficial properties.

It is then no wonder that Alfred Vogel thought so highly of the use of dandelion root and leaves - to this day it is treated with great respect and carefully cultivated in our gardens in Switzerland.

Dandelion as a Rich Source of Inulin:

Inulin is a dietary fibre that is non-digestible, passing through the small intestine into the large intestine, where it ferments and stimulates the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria. This action makes it what is termed a prebiotic.

Whilst prebiotics are known to have many health benefits due to their effect on beneficial intestinal bacteria, there are no health claims currently allowed for them. The current surge of interest is due to the possible effects of inulin on triglycerides, which it is thought to lower.

Inulin is present in onions, bananas, garlic, leeks, Jerusalem artichokes and asparagus, but higher concentrations are found in chicory root and dandelion root.

A.Vogel Dandelion tincture contains root that is rich in inulin. The tincture itself helps the liver to metabolise fats more efficiently, so the overall effect on fat stores is extremely positive.
