October Art Exhibition 2024 – Samantha Boulanger

October’s visual treat is the work of Samantha Boulanger. While often on display in local art galleries & art fairs around Ceredigion this will be Sam’s 1st full show here at Mulberry Bush having exhibited here before with print group Printers in the Sticks, and it’s a welcome return to get the full flavour of her botanical collage and endearingly iconic whippets.

In her own words:

An up-cyclist and Fine Artist with a keen interest in photography & printmaking, particularly cyanotypes, linocut, eco printing & painting, mostly inspired by the forms, patterns, textures found in nature, woodlands, landscapes, wild life and animals; especially her whippet Guto.

Based near Aberystwyth in Mid West Wales. In July 2019, Samantha graduated from Aberystwyth University with a BA Fine Art (First Class Honours) and in September 2021 completed her MA also in Fine Art.

Her passions are predominantly photography and printmaking, often combining these together as well as introducing other media to create unique hybrid prints and collages. More recent explorations have taken her into the historical photographic process of Cyanotype; but with an alchemical contemporary twist, botanical ecoprinting and painting.

Inspiration comes from the natural world, woodlands, landscapes and animals. Also intrigued by the ordinary, the patterns, textures and tonal qualities that surround us, often recreating what is seen as quite mundane and ordinary into something very unique and interesting. Samantha’s art practice is definitely driven by an innate curiosity and playfulness; experimenting with the processes themselves and exploring more closely texture, composition, layering, abstraction and the various interactions between printmaking and photography and more recently painting.
