Starting today we have on display the print work of local artist Cassie Gray. Cassie has produced many fine print works for us in monochrome & colour on the themes of ‘Birds and Beaches’. The images evoke a very airy feel and the print quality is perfection.
In Cassie’s own words:
Printmaking is essentially the transfer of ink or other medium from a block or plate onto paper or other material. The reverse image is incised or built onto a block, often wood, lino, metal or acrylic sheet, and inked up using a variety of techniques.
Some processes produce an image that can be repeated several times before the block is worn out, other processes produce a unique image that cannot be repeated. Many of my prints combine both of these elements so a woodcut or linocut may be used with a mono print and chine collie producing different results from the same block.
It is lovely to have Cassie’s work up here for the first time. Historically Cassie helped to run the art’s & crafts shop Celtic Edge which was located in what is now the cafe, so it is a home from home for her. She is also a member of local art group ‘Printers in the Sticks‘.
The exhibition will be run for the next 6 weeks.
